The Ekiti State legislators’ caucus in the National Assembly has urged stakeholders, including state governments, corporate sector leaders, civil society, and people, to support the tax reform measures now before the federal assembly.
The caucus praised President Bola Tinubu’s ambitious plan of prioritizing economic development, inclusion, and national prosperity by implementing tax changes to overhaul the country’s budgetary structure.
Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Yemi Adaramodu, and Cyril Fasuyi of the All Progressives Congress, as well as Representatives Olufemi Bamisile, Olusola Steve Fatoba, Biodun Omoleye, Rufus Ojuawo, Akinlayo Kolawole, and Akin Rotimi, made this known in a jointly signed statement released in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
They observed that the success of the reform bills “is not only a win for the Tinubu administration but also a critical step toward building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.”
The proposed legislation that has caused controversy in the National Assembly comprises the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024; and Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024. These proposals are a visionary attempt to reform Nigeria’s budgetary system.
The caucus added, “These proposals seek to reinforce Nigeria’s income-generating system, providing long-term support for important areas including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare.
