Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain, has declared that Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, cannot be president in 2027.
Igbokwe, who made the comments on Monday, stated on his Facebook page that Atiku cannot travel in 2027 and should wait till 2031.
He stated, “Former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is still striving and dreaming of becoming President of Nigeria in 2027.
“Overall, it cannot fly. He should wait till 2031. Even so, age is not on his side.
This comes after the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, stated that no one from the North should run against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Akume had urged that Atiku and other Northern leaders should enable Tinubu to resume his second term in 2027.
However, Atiku, via his media assistant Paul Ibe, disputed Akume’s comments, stating that Tinubu has not done enough for Nigerians to reelect him in 2027.
Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau commented that there was nothing remarkable about the North and South running Nigeria.
Shekarau believes Nigerians should focus on picking reputable candidates rather than limiting their options to regional rotation.
