In Nasarawa State, organized labor has canceled its planned indefinite strike.
Members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had started the industrial action because the new minimum wage had not been implemented.
NLC said on November 23 that the deadline of December 1st for all states to enact the new minimum wage was untouchaHowever, Ismaila Okoh, the chairman of the Nasarawa NLC, stated that following lengthy talks with the state administration and actions by important stakeholders, the workers decided to end the strike.
NLC chairman in Nasarawa Ismaila Okoh claimed the workers called off the strike after the Nasarawa government “agreed to adjust the minimum wage effectively” during a press conference in Lafia on Monday.
He stated, “A template for the ensuing minimum wage adjustments for workers on Grade Levels 7 to 16 has been finalized.”
The new minimum wage, including the agreed-upon modifications, will be paid starting on December 1, according to Mohammed Doma, the state’s TUC head.
