The current 2024 Psychosocial Support Program will assist more than 12,000 people in the state, according to a Tuesday announcement from the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency.
This was declared at the project’s kickoff ceremony at Alegongo Community Hall in Akobo, Ibadan, in the Lagelu Local Government Area of the state, by OYCSDA Chairman Abideen Adeaga.
The project, he clarified, was an additional means of providing assistance to the underprivileged, including widows, orphans, and individuals with special needs.
The World Bank and the State Government collaborated to create the initiative as part of the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus, Adeaga emphasized.
“The psychosocial support program is targeted at over 12,000 residents across the state, similar to the 251 micro-projects that have benefited over 355,000 beneficiaries in the healthcare, education, water and sanitation, and erosion control sectors,” he said.
According to him, the program included providing food, money, and counseling services to poor and vulnerable individuals. This would help them cope with the stresses and difficulties of daily life and give them the confidence and energy they need to participate in the execution and sustainability of microprojects in their local communities.
These grants are given to more than 12,000 of our communities’ most disadvantaged members in order to help them better handle the rigors and difficulties of daily life and to give them the confidence and vigor to take part in the execution of microprojects in their local communities.
Under the NG-CARES program, the organization has enabled the implementation of 251 micro-projects in 114 communities across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state, with over 355,000 beneficiaries registered for these micro-projects. It is appropriate to thank God and the kind Governor of the state, Seyi Makinde, for making these efforts successful through funding and encouragement.
Speaking as well, OYCSDA General Manager Salau Jelili reaffirmed the organization’s pledge to assist the state’s “poorest of the poor” by implementing micro-projects and interventions in vital areas of life.
According to Jelili, the program’s goal was to improve the disadvantaged population’s social, economic, physical, and mental well-being by giving their homes a welfare boost.
Therefore, he urged the beneficiaries to keep supporting the Makinde-led government in order to continue reaping the benefits of democracy.
