Simi and Peter, two Nigerian immigrants, have spoken out about the problems they experience in Canada.
In a video that circulated on social media on Monday, they both said that they came to the nation with the expectation of a better future, but unanticipated events have brought them to the edge of homelessness.
Simi, who went to Canada alone to continue her education, recounted her initial delight upon landing in the nation.
“When I first moved to Canada, I was attending school in Hamilton, which was quite decent. “I was in boarding school, so it was pretty good,” she explained.
Despite the optimistic start, Simi’s path took a turn following a failed business venture, and soaring housing costs in Toronto derailed her plans.
“It’s a long story, but it’s mostly because I invested in a business idea that failed. I was running colleges down the street, and I had a fashion business,” she explained.
The soaring cost of housing compounded her struggles.
“There’s an issue with housing. It’s not so much about detox, hospitals, or mental health, such as therapy. “There are more issues with housing,” she explained.
Simi also stated that she had anxiety, which makes typical job difficult.
