Residents of Shavoh, a neighborhood in Jalingo, Taraba State’s capital, are terrified after hearing reports of suspected gunmen patrolling the area on Sunday night.
Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the anonymous guys, equipped with hazardous weapons, were also observed watching homes in the early hours of Monday.
Residents in the community are concerned after seeing armed people moving discreetly through the streets.
The appearance of the strange persons has prompted widespread worry, with residents fearing for their own safety and the security of their community.
“We no longer feel safe even in our own homes,” one resident complained, echoing the concerns of many in the town.
In response, community leaders and people have urged the state government and security services to take prompt action.
They are pushing authorities to deploy people to examine the reports and put in place safeguards to deter suspected illegal activities.
Local leaders have also asked for greater security patrols in the area to restore peace of mind.
“The situation requires immediate attention,” stated a village elder. “We need the assurance that our lives and properties are secured. However, State Police Command spokesman Abdullahi Usman stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the region had not reported the development. He promised to get back as soon as information is made available.
