Higher school students in Cross River State have urged their state and federal legislators to prioritise education in their constituency empowerment programs.
Jenifer Ntui of the University of Calabar spoke on behalf of 60 students from Cross River State’s central area who were given free transportation back to Calabar after the holidays by Mr. Kingsley Ntui Isong, a member of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
She said that instead of spending money on bicycles, wrappers, indomie, and other palliatives or empowerment products, Nigerian lawmakers should prioritize granting scholarships to qualified constituents.
The students expressed their gratitude to the senator for his assistance in allowing them to return to school, and they urged others to do the same for schools and students.
“The complimentary transportation was a lovely gesture and a huge relief for us. You are aware that bus tickets from Etung LGA have risen to well above N25,000, up from approximately N8,000 previously.
“We can utilize the money we saved to pay for other school-related expenses. “We are grateful,” she stated.
Similarly, Anthony Bissong, chairman of the Youth Progressive Party (YPP), has advocated for educational interventions by state MPs.
He claimed that doing so could help minimize the effects of growing transportation costs and overall inflation.
