The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has promised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of its assistance in controlling the party’s structure in the state.
Bala Mohammed, chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and governor of Bauchi State, offered the guarantee over the weekend when he met with Fubara, who had come to the state to express his condolences on the death of his stepmother.
Fubara has been at odds with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for control of the PDP in Rivers state.
The feud came to a climax last week when the PDP’s National Working Committee, in a statement issued by the national publicity secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba, restated its support for the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive, which is loyal to Fubara.
Ologunagba stated that the NWC made the decision in response to a Rivers State High Court decision that voided the party’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses, which were held on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively, and were faithful to Wike.
Recall that Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s deputy national publicity secretary, had disregarded Ologunagba’s previous statement recognizing the Ewor-led executive, claiming that the NWC had not debated on the issue.
