The Students’ Union Government, SUG, of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, has supported the institution’s Governing Council’s decision to form an investigative committee to investigate allegations made against the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, by Engineer Folashade Adebayo, a Deputy Director of Works and Services.

According to reports, FUOYE is now investigating charges of sexual harassment against its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina.

In response, the university’s Governing Council appointed a nine-member commission to investigate the allegations.

The allegations came to light through audio recordings in which Professor Fasina was accused of making unwanted approaches on Folashade.

The committee has been allowed three weeks to undertake a comprehensive inquiry and submit its findings.

The Council plans to evaluate the panel’s report at its next meeting, which is slated for the third week of February 2025.

The FUOYE Students’ Union Government, led by Abiodun Olorunshola Mary, praised the bold step in a statement released on Wednesday. The SUG described it as “a demonstration of the institution’s steadfast commitment to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit for justice.”

The Union stated that the committee’s formation underscores FUOYE’s commitment to respecting its core values and guaranteeing justice in the handling of internal conflicts.

In accordance with the response of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, which praised and backed the committee established by the Governing Council of FUOYE, the SUG repeated its position, stating: “We fully support a thorough and unbiased investigation.”

The Union expressed trust in the Governing Council’s committee, chaired by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, to “ensure equitable hearings and carefully examine all allegations.”
