The Enugu State Government has prohibited the display of posters on any outdoor surface or space without prior approval.
The government, in a statement issued on Thursday by the Enugu State Structures for Signages and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA), stated that it was illegal to paste or display posters on any outdoor surface or space in the state without first obtaining written permission from the agency.
The statement, issued by the General Manager, Frank Aninwike, indicated that the agency would no longer tolerate the defacing of external surfaces and places. It cautioned that defaulters would face a fine of up to N50 million (Fifty Million Naira).
The statement reads in parts.
“This is to inform all political parties, churches, schools, printers, advertisers, marketers, producers, and the general public that no person or entity shall post or display any poster on public or private structures, buildings, walls, highways, or any outdoor surface or space within Enugu State without first obtaining written approval from the Enugu State Structures for Signages and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA).”
“Failure to comply with this directive constitutes a violation of Sections 4(1,g), 33, and 34(4,9) of the ENSSAA Law, 2016, which authorizes the Agency to control the posting and display of posters on outdoor surfaces and spaces, as well as to make regulations on the subject of this notice.
“Please be advised that pasting or displaying the poster without first obtaining written approval from ENSSAA will result in a fine of up to Fifty Million Naira (N50,000,000).
“We therefore urge all concerned to kindly comply with this directive as ENSSAA will no longer tolerate the defacing of outdoor surfaces and spaces” , the press release stated.
