A 200-level Mass Communication student at the University of Ilorin reportedly committed suicide at his apartment in the Oke-odo region of Tanke, Ilorin.
A student ingested a dangerous chemical last week while his roommate was attending lectures. A suicide note discovered at the scene described his struggle with financial difficulties, which he claimed had grown untenable.
According to a close friend who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “We returned to find a suicide note where he explained his struggles and decision to take the substance.”
The deceased had a 4.5 GPA and was sponsored by his widowed mother, a retired teacher.
In a related story, another Mass Communication student narrowly avoided death on Monday evening after attempting suicide on campus. Passers-by apparently saw him with a rope around his neck in a nearby bush and swiftly alerted authorities. He was transported to the university’s medical department for immediate treatment.
