Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has stated that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who criticize him will be unable to sleep because their “conscience won’t allow them to sleep.”

El-Rufai, who formerly served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made the remark on Monday in response to praise for his advocacy for power rotation to the South during the APC’s 2023 presidential primary.

He insisted that his decision to support the Southern president was driven by a sense of responsibility to God, nation, and the party, not personal ambition.”

We did what we did for God, country, and party without expecting anything in return. What is happening is just another life event, and it is a natural part of being human. We’ve moved on, but their conscience isn’t letting them sleep comfortably.” El-Rufai wrote on the social networking platform X, which was previously known as Twitter.

The former governor’s statement came in response to statements made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who praised El-Rufai and other APC governors for putting their ambitions aside and supporting the zoning of the presidency to the south.

Makinde commended El-Rufai’s and other governors’ sacrifices in safeguarding the country’s unity, particularly those from Jigawa, Kogi, and Yobe states.

“I must give kudos to governors on the platform of APC… for the unity of this country, they sacrificed their ambition,” Makinde added.

El-Rufai also cited a statement made by APC chieftain Ayekooto Akindele, who thanked the former governor for avoiding political techniques aimed at dividing the country along religious and ethnic lines before to the APC primary election.
