Court grants Dele Farotimi N50m bail

Greenmax

The Ekiti State High Court granted bail to Dele Farotimi, a human rights lawyer.

The court granted Farotimi bail in the amount of N50 million, with a corresponding surety.

The court determined that the surety must own landed property and delayed the case until January 29, 2025.

Farotimi was hauled to court by Chief Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, after being apprehended by Ekiti State Police Command officers.

Babalola, 95, accused Farotimi of defaming him in his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

The detention provoked uproar throughout the country, causing civil society organizations and the Nigerian Bar Association to demand the activist’s release.
