Nigerian disc jockey Oluwaforijimi Amu, aka DJ Jimmy Jatt, has spoken out about his medical struggles and eventual kidney transplant.
Remember that the ‘Stylee’ singer announced in 2022 that he had a successful kidney transplant.
Speaking on a recent edition of Channels TV’s ‘Rubbin Minds’ with Ebuka, Jatt revealed that he lost his sight in 2020 and was subsequently diagnosed with chronic renal illness after undergoing surgery to restore it.
He claimed his health problems began when he decided to travel the world after spending the majority of his life in Nigeria.
He replied, “Maybe I caused it for myself since in 2019 I stated that I wanted to spend more time outside of the nation. I’ve spent my entire life in Nigeria, particularly Lagos. So I wanted to go all across the world, including Europe and America.
“However, in 2020, I began experiencing some health difficulties. There were travel limitations at the time, so I was just in Nigeria. I lost sight. I had surgery and regained my vision. After that, I felt the need to take a break and stick to my goal of living somewhere for a while.Then I moved to the United States. When I was in the United States, I was diagnosed with chronic renal disease. I was there for a while. I was undergoing dialysis. I eventually returned to Nigeria and received a kidney transplant. After the transplant, I chose to remain quiet for a bit in order to fully recuperate. So as soon as I was discharged, I fled Nigeria.
“While I was away, I was still djying in America and Europe but I decided that it was time to return to Nigeria so I came back in December.”
DJ Jimmy Jatt stated that lifestyle is not usually the cause of renal disease, noting that he has never smoked and has long ceased consuming alcohol.
He admitted that his kidney disease was caused by diabetes.
