Famous Nollywood actress Ini Edo has finally revealed why she chose surrogacy rather than bearing the baby herself.
The actress revealed this on the third season of the ‘Young Famous and African’ reality show.
During a discussion with her co-stars, Ini Edo discussed her child’s paternity.
In response to queries about her marriage and her daughter’s paternity, the actress revealed that she struggled to carry pregnancies.
One of her colleagues, Nadia, inquired, “Do you have a child?
Ini Edo says, “Yes, a baby girl.”
Nadia asks, “Are you married?”
Ini Edo says, “I’m not married.”
Nadia’s mom: “Are you together with the dad?”
Ini Edo says, “No, I am not.”
Nadia asks, “Is he still alive?”
Ini Edo responded, “He is not dead.” He has nothing to do with us. We are only two persons. Me and my daughter.
“I don’t really want to share about my trip because it’s so personal. I am raising my child alone. I went through surrogacy.
There was no partner in my life at the time, but I wanted to have a kid, and there are several options available.
“I never imagined I’d have fertility troubles. However, I have had difficulty carrying pregnancies for an extended period of time. When it looked like it wasn’t going to happen and I wasn’t getting any younger, I asked, ‘What are my options?
“Then this option came up, and I chose it. “I am very pleased with my decision.”
Speaking further, the actress revealed that she had undergone IVF operations to become pregnant and suffered six miscarriages before deciding to pursue surrogacy.
The 42-year-old actress married a Nigerian-American businessman, Philip Ehiagwina, in November 2008 and their union ended in divorce in 2014.
