Jordan Chiedozie, an English-born Nigerian player, is currently in a coma after being struck by a car on the freeway.
The 30-year-old had played for non-league club Bashley FC against Tavistock over the weekend.
Chiedozie and Bashley physio Reighan Taylor experienced a flat tire on the road on their way back from the away game.
The footballer got “life-changing, and potentially life-threatening” injuries after being hit by another vehicle on the M27 while stepping out to inspect the flat tire situation.
In response to the event, the club issued the following statement: “Everyone linked with Bashley Football Club is horrified by the news of our player Jordan Chiedozie, who is currently in the hospital with life-changing and potentially life-threatening injuries as a result of a horrific automobile mishap.
“Jordan was sent to Southampton Hospital with several broken bones and severe physical ailments. At this time, he is in a managed coma.”
