On December 31, 2024, the House of Representatives will award President Bola Tinubu with N704.91 million for the benefit of disadvantaged Nigerians who have suffered economic hardship as a result of the elimination of the petrol subsidy.

Recall that on July 18, the House agreed to cut 50% of their salary for six months in order to address the difficulties that ordinary Nigerians confront, after the acceptance of a motion introduced during a plenary session.

Following a resolution by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, the House agreed in July to contribute half of their wages to address Nigerians’ food needs as part of attempts to put an end to the protests against terrible administration.

While moving the motion, Kalu stated: “This government is doing its best, but one year is not enough to address the challenges of this country. I want to plead with our colleagues to sacrifice 50 per cent for a period of six months.

“Our monthly compensation is N600,000. I’d like to request that we forego 50% of our salaries for six months.

Addressing his colleagues during Thursday’s plenary, Speaker Tajudeen Abba stated, “If you recall, around five months ago, we resolved to pay half of our salary to meet the pressing needs of the Nigerian people. I am pleased to inform you that we have thus far donated N704,907,578.82.

“On December 31, I will lead a group of leaders to deliver the funds to the President for the exclusive benefit of the most disadvantaged Nigerians.
