On Monday, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda presented a proposed budget of ₦682 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
The proposed budget allocates ₦157.97 billion (23.15%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦524.27 billion (76.85%) for capital spending.
This 40% increase from the 2024 budget underscores the administration’s commitment to increasing growth in important areas.
Education and agriculture are the main priority, getting 14% of the budget (₦95.99bn and ₦81.84bn, respectively).
Other key allocations include:
- Works, Housing, and Transport: ₦68.48bn (10%)
- Rural and Social Development: ₦58.73bn (9%)
- Water Resources: ₦53.83bn (8%)
- Environment: ₦49.84bn (7%)
- Health: ₦43.88bn (6%)
- Internal Security and Home Affairs: ₦18.94bn (3%)
Radda emphasized the 2024 budget’s accomplishments, including improvements in fundamental services, revenue creation, and project implementation.
“We have achieved many of our goals, and my administration is on course to meet and exceed its targets,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, the governor welcomed gains in security, adding that bandits had been driven to the outskirts, restoring quiet in many districts.
Despite global and national economic issues like naira devaluation, inflation, and subsidy withdrawal, Radda complimented his administration’s ability to maintain efficiency.
“When I proposed the 2024 budget, the naira stood at ₦816 per dollar. Today, it’s ₦1,725—a 100% decrease. However, we have handled this uncertainty while prioritizing our people’s well-being,” he stated.
He ascribed growing expenses to global crises such as the Russia-Ukraine war, which affected wheat supplies, as well as higher transportation costs caused by the Yemen catastrophe.
Nonetheless, Radda reminded everyone that his administration is committed to alleviating burdens while delivering on its development objectives.
He extended his thanks to development partners, government staff, and security officers for their assistance.
He asked the Assembly to enact the budget quickly, citing its ability to consolidate achievements and boost economic growth in Katsina State.
