On Monday, the Labour Party advised the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress to avoid its administration and cease attempting to make decisions on behalf of the party.
The opposition party has rejected the idea of combining with any political platform before the 2027 federal elections.
Obiora Ifoh, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, announced this in a statement made accessible to press in Abuja.
He continued: “While the party is not considering a merger, it remains open to collaborations aimed at strengthening its position ahead of future elections.”
Obiora was responding to requests for rebranding initiatives, including a potential merger or coalition.
The NLC, in a communique signed by President Joe Ajaero following its National Executive Council meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, underlined the need to recapture the party and restore its ideological core.
The union urged its organ, the National Administrative Council, to take immediate action to rebrand the party by merging or creating a coalition with like-minded organizations in order to safeguard the interests of the LP and Nigerian workers in the party and recapture the party.
