Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed Prince Abimbola Owoade’s appointment as the next Alaafin of Oyo.
Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, announced the news in a statement released on Friday.
Oyelade reported that Owoade was chosen following long deliberations and traditional divinations by the Oyo kingmakers, known as the Oyomesi.
“Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo,” according to a statement.
In his remarks, Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the pronouncement brings an end to the legal and social conflicts that arose following the death of the former Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.
“This decision has resolved all socio-legal controversies that have arisen since the late Oba Adeyemi’s transition.” We encourage the people of Oyo State to embrace the new Alaafin and join the administration in commemorating this historic occasion,” Ojo stated.
Oyelade expressed confidence that the next Alaafin’s rule will bring peace, harmony, and prosperity to the Oyo Kingdom.
