The Federal Government has welcomed Israel and Hamas’ ceasefire deal, expressing hope that it will put a stop to enormous human suffering in Gaza.

The accord, struck after 15 months of fighting, also gives compensation to relatives of Israeli captives in Gaza and Palestinians jailed in Israeli jails.

On Monday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued a press statement stating this.

Nigeria has highlighted the agreement’s importance in facilitating the delivery of critical humanitarian and relief goods to the afflicted region.

The administration also praised Egypt, Qatar, and the US for mediating the accord and acting as international guarantors for its implementation.

The federal government urged all parties to preserve the momentum of peace and guarantee the smooth implementation of the agreement’s succeeding phases.

Nigeria restated its support for a two-state solution as the road to long-term stability in the region.
