Northern Professionals have supported the decision of the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, to re-award the revoked extend of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway to a new business.

It was previously reported that the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, had terminated a section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway contract handled by Julius Berger Construction Company due to a price dispute and a completion timetable.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Northern Professionals’ Chairman and Secretary, Dr. Isa Samaila Getso and Comrade Ibrahim Mohammad Geidam, expressed satisfaction over the contract’s re-award and stated that initial concerns about potential delays and desertion had been allayed.

According to the statement, re-awarding the road contract for such a critical corridor connecting northern states after Julius Berger failed to deliver on time is commendable.

“We were very disturbed when the deal was ended. But now, as a token of appreciation, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking decisive steps to resume work and complete the Abuja-Kaduna road.

“The reality is that we were really upset and disturbed when we learned that the contract handled by a well-known contractor, Julius Berger, had been annulled. However, with the current decision, we are relieved that the road, which had become a death trap, will now be completed,” it stated.

According to the statement, the revocation of the road contract sends a message to all contractors that the federal government would no longer tolerate unwarranted delays in contract completion based on variations and growing material costs.
