Troops from the 1 Brigade of the Joint Task Force Operation Fasan Yamma, along with agents from the Department of State Services, intercepted a weapons cache in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, which took place on January 27, 2025, was predicated on intelligence information pointing to the operations of suspected arms traffickers operating from the Niger Republic.
Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre, Operation Fasan Yamma, stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Abdullahi stated, “Acting quickly on intelligence, the forces started a clandestine operation to track down the culprits.
“The pursuit occurred along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road, when the suspects sought to elude arrest by driving off-road into the wilderness. However, the forces’ tactical response compelled the suspects to ditch their car and flee on foot.
“A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered the following items: two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.”
In a related incident, the military is stepping up its attempts to apprehend the famed terrorist commander Bello Turji, who has managed to avoid arrest by often shifting his hideouts.
