To combat the activities of miscreants, beggars, and other social vices throughout the state, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in collaboration with the Lagos State Task Force, has launched a one-week-long raid.
According to information obtained, the action, which was prompted by public outrage, is to purge the streets of impoverished people, criminals, and kids engaged in street begging, all of whom are threats to public safety and the environment.
At the exercise’s flag-off, Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, stated that citizens of the Lagos metropolis had raised security concerns by sending messages and making calls that inspired the week-long operation.
He claimed that the complaints were so common that the appropriate MDAs in charge of handling the matter were forced to respond right away.
“Since the operation began, we have rescued a significant number of adults and children from the streets of Lagos State.
For appropriate care, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society, “all rescued individuals have been taken to our rehabilitation centers,” he stated.
The adults among them will participate in empowerment programs to gain skills that will allow them to become economically independent and productive, he continued, while efforts are being made to reconnect the children with their families.
Major thoroughfares such as Ikoyi, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Lekki Road, Awolowo Way up to Falomo Roundabout, and other areas of the state were covered by the operation.
