Major opposition parties in Nigeria have condemned former President Muhammadu Buhari for encouraging Nigerians to pray to God to resuscitate the country rather than recognizing that consecutive All Progressives Congress-led governments have failed the people.
During an APC stakeholder meeting in Katsina on Saturday, Buhari angered many Nigerians by encouraging his followers in Hausa not to abandon the country.
According to him, “Only God, who created Nigeria, can solve Nigeria’s problems.”
His comment has elicited diverse reactions from Nigerians on various social media sites.
In response, Ladipo Johnson, the National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria public’s Party, argued that Buhari’s statements demonstrated that the APC-led administration had been fooling the public while knowing that it had no idea of the country’s problems.
He stated, “Well, it’s an admission that the APC government has completely failed Nigerians and has led us into an economic downturn.” This comment by the past president demonstrates that even the present government is confused.
“It also means they have no clue about what they have been doing all this while. It’s like a trial-and-error process. What we need is the right set of leaders. The APC has failed and cannot provide the leadership required to turn the fortunes of this country around.”
The Peoples Democratic Party shared the same sentiment.
