Three suspected armed robbers were slain by a mob after robbing shop owners at the famed Ngalda weekly market in Yobe State’s Fika Local Government Area.
The Yobe State Command of the Nigeria Police Force verified the occurrence in a statement made by SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Public Relations Officer.
“On January 20, 2025, at around 2100hrs, a group of six armed robbers commanded by Datti Alhaji Dadji of Ngalda Town, attacked three establishments in Ngalda Market. The event killed seven people and injured eleven.
The robbers got off with about sixteen million five hundred thousand Naira.
“In response, the people of Ngalda Town mobilized and killed three of the robbers, while three others escaped with injuries,” the military commander added.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the region led a team of officers to Alhaji Dadji’s house, where they discovered a locally produced pistol with three cartridges.
“Alhaji Dadji was arrested and is currently in police custody, facing interrogation as the investigation unfolds,” according to the release.
As the victims and corpses were transported to the General Hospital Fika for medical care and autopsy, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and issued an appeal for calm.
He ordered command operatives with apprehending fugitive syndicate members and invited the public to provide genuine information.
The Command expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and promised that the perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law.
