President Bola Tinubu has expressed great sadness over the death of the Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji Haruna Katsina, who formerly served as Chairman of the Council of Arewa Traditional Leaders in the 17 southern states.

The beloved community leader died at the age of 125 and was put to rest this weekend in Sasa, Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State.

In a statement published on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu acknowledged Sarkin Sasa’s death as a great loss to the nation, underlining his enormous efforts to building unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

“The community leader’s death is a huge loss to the country, given his significant influence and contributions to peaceful coexistence among Nigerians,” the statement read.

Tinubu sent his profound condolences to the Sarkin Sasa family, the people and administrations of Oyo and Katsina states, and the leaders of Arewa communities in the southern states.

The late Sarkin Sasa was internationally acclaimed for his leadership and commitment to building unity among Nigeria’s many ethnic groupings.

His death signals the end of a period of traditional leadership that valued inclusion and national unity.
