Tunisia’s President, Kais Saied, has fired his finance minister and appointed a magistrate to the position.

Michket Slama Khaldi will take over the country’s finance position, the presidency announced on Facebook overnight Wednesday to Thursday, accompanied with photos of her taking the oath of office.

The president provided no more information, nor did it reference departing Minister Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia.

The new finance minister oversaw a national panel tasked with retrieving embezzled public cash.

Tunisia has over the past two years suffered sporadic shortages of basic items such as milk, sugar and flour.

Recently, there has also been a scarcity of domestic gas cylinders, which are widely used for cooking and heating.
